Abstract

This paper investigated the dynamic behaviors of occupant and belt systems for purposes of alleviating automobile occupant’s injury in frontal collision. In order to obtain a control mechanism against occupant’s impact, more effective characteristics of belt webbing are to be pursued. This approach is to examine the dynamic behavior at the impact of the vehicle and occupant systems, and particularly the propagation of stress or strain wave by the FE continuum model of seat belt webbing. The relation between the occupant’s motion and all the potential correlating phenomena in the belt system is to be cleared. A key-point of controlling technique to seat belt systems, is eventually led by this research.
