Abstract
This paper is part of a series result study on Cost Reduction in Product Development through application of Rapid Prototyping Method, but it is the core of the whole study in this research.
However, this paper reports a specific study on the use of Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) rapid prototyping in reverse engineering involving investment casting process. The FDM Process was used for design verification as well as a rapid design implementation i.e. rapid fabrication of wax patterns for investment casting process. With the absence of CAD data the actual metal parts can be quickly produced using the FDM based reverse engineering.
