Abstract

Vehicle attitude during cornering is one of factors characterizing its handling performance. It is well known that a bodywork heave motion has a strong correlation with a driver's subjective evaluation. This paper presents a new roll attitude control theory concerning on the motion, and tests the effects. The function of the algorithm is to create a down roll posture by defining virtual dampers inside of the corner. From the simulation study, it was confirmed that it decreases the weight transfer and improves the distribution ratio of tire lateral force. Also from experiments using actual vehicle, it was confirmed that the down roll posture improves the roll feeling of driver.
