Abstract
For the improvement of power transmission efficiency of a metal V-belt CVT, the influence of the inherent power losses of the belt and the oil pump on the total CVT loss and fuel economy are analyzed by computer simulation with using measured loss data. Simulations are carried out for several driving modes at different average speeds. The result shows that the pump loss and the belt loss take the major part of the total loss for all driving modes. It is inevitable to reduce both of these losses for the improvement of fuel economy in all speed ranges.
