Abstract
The paper summarizes the work on motor vehicle exhaust emissions and feul consumption regulations in Europe. Especially, Thc new regulations or amendment to existing regulation accepted within last two year or intended to be accepted in near future are reviewed. Discussed problems are: exhaust emissions of passenger cars and light trucks, emissions of heavy duty diesel engines, new testing procedure for heavy duty diesel engines, emissions of engines for off-road machinery, regulations for gas engines, fuel consumption and CO2 emission, environmental requirements on vehicles in international traffic, regulations on electric vehicles etc.
