Abstract
Development of virtual prototypes may contribute to the realization of a virtual environment under which Systems Engineering can be applied so as to enable an advanced development process to be performed. Following this determination, a concept of "Virtual Brake Testing" has been developed at the Frimeks Laboratory of the University of Belgrade, where a "virtual disc brake prototype" was virtually tested for performance and reliability. The idea emerged from a large experience accumulated by the Laboratory through many years of testing various vehicte brakes with the inertia dynamometer and gathered in an appropriate knowledge base. A virtual model of the disc brake was developed using Pro/Engineer & Pro/Mechanica, and later virtually tested by means of duplicating the real test conditions, which allowed also output data on brake performance and reliability to be predicted.
