This paper presents contribution to definition and strategical approach on legislative solutions related to the road traffic safety with a view to harmonize them with european and international regulations and practice and regarding to the role of accreditation. Terefore, some particular aspects of road traffic technical and safety conditions are elaborated, such as: recurrent inspection of motor vehicles with regard to requirements for technical competence of (inspection) stations and requirement for reliability of equipment used for measurements and tests which have significant influence on the results of that inspection; social conditions, particularly, requirements for recording equipment in road transport (tachographs). EU documents, regulation and standards have been taken as the basis for proposed solutions. Particularly, the role of accreditation in assessment and attestation of the technical competence of the stations for recurrent inspection of motor vehicles is emphasized, including competence of laboratories which activities are calibration of measurement equipment used in those stations and calibration of recording equipment in road transport (tachographs).
