Abstract

Keywords: Computational Fluid Dynamics, the new default turbulence model, the universal wall treatment, automotive flows, real-life applications.

The paper presents a new `default´ turbulence model for automotive flows. The four equations k---f turbulence model is applied in conjunction with the universal wall treatment which combines the integration up to the wall with wall functions. Such a solution is the optimum for any computational mesh. There is no significant penalty on computing time and robustness when compared with the present standard industrial model, namely the standard k- model. The performance of the new `default´model´ is shown on the complex industrial applications: a water cooling jacket, external car aerodynamics, a car compartment, intake ports and engines.
