Abstract
The new ECOTEC L4 engine family covers a displacement range of 1.8 up to 2.4 litres. It features DOHC 4 valve design of the cylinderhead with chain-driven camshafts as well as hydraulic lifters with roller finger followers. The cylinderblock is a lightweight aluminium casting with bedplate and incorporated balance shafts. After a brief product presentation this contribution describes the production equipment in Kaiserslautern with about 42 transferlines, 149 single machines, the specific processes and the quality management.
