Abstract

The paper deals with a parabolic heat transfer fluid flow through channels with fins with periodically varying cross-section in the streamwise direction. Each fin has a trapezoidal shape and is inclined to the base surface. This kind of fins are encountered in the compact heat exchangers used for automotive vehicles. The finite difference method of the control volume approach is used for discretization of the partial difference equations and Simpler model for the solution of the velocity pressure coupling. Heat transfer and hydrodynamic characteristics are obtained and compared with results obtained for the continuous inclined fins. There are two continuous fins took under consideration, with length corresponding to the lowest and highest end of the varying cross-section. It is observed that the best heat transfer results and also a higher pressure drop, are obtained for the continuous fins with full height followed by trapezoidal fins and, finally, continuous fins with small height.
