Abstract

In this paper the results of mathematical simulation and experimental investigation of gas exchange process and intake system geometry optimization of the 1.4 l spark ignition engine has been presented. For numerical analysis the AVL BOOST program for engine working cycle simulation has been used. In order to calibrate computer model and achieve its high accuracy, the experimental investigation of engine process had been previously carried out. Experimental work includes the testing of engine overall operating parameters, as well as pressure history diagrams recording on characteristic positions in engine intake pipes and in engine cylinder. After reaching a good agreement between theoretical and experimental results, the computer simulation has been used to find optimal geometrical parameters of engine intake system.
