Abstract

The market of automotive industry has to satisfy more and more requirements for vehicle aesthetic, comfort, saving and safety. It conducts the business of the automotive sector to research the cost diminishing using means of calculation that are essential part of the process of design and experimentation. In this paper, starting from a theoretical study of the braking problems and from the available bibliography on disk brake, the results by the FEM simulation of a stressing case for the system pad-disk, are obtained examining separately mechanical and thermal stress, hence the effects are simultaneously considered. Besides the influences of both pad shape and pressure cylinder diameter on thermal and mechanical stress are taken into account in this work. It has been shown that neither pressure distribution on the pads nor wear due to thermal strain is uniform.
