Abstract
Retarders are installed in commercial vehicles to relieve the load on the service braking system. The addi-tional braking power to the live axles of vehicles produced by the application of retarders alters the braking force distribution and, as a consequence, has a decisive effect on vehicle stability. Therefore, the braking action of retarders and service braking systems should be controlled by an intelligent braking management system.
