Abstract

As in many other automotive areas, development in the automotive air conditioning (A/C) is gaining speed. Current heater systems are designed to deal with different conditions. All major car manufacturers have similar standardized tests and targets for heater systems. Based on the passenger's comfort demands, heater system has to provide certain interior temperature level within a short time.

A/C system came much later in the vehicle. First automotive A/C systems were using R22 as refrigerant, 4 – cylinder compressors and copper refrigerant lines – not any different from the stationary refrigerant systems at that time. Ozone harmful substances were used as refrigerant fluid. Increasing A/C installation rates are positively influencing the cost development, which would enable the final customer to take advantage of excellent thermal comfort at low cost and high environmental standards. VISTEON's Exhaust Heat Recovery System is showing very high potential by achieving the performance of conventional petrol engines by recuperating heat from exhaust gas.
