Abstract
Vehicles to be used in historical centres of cities have to be very respectful with the environment, with special attention to exhaust gas emissions, but even more important with very low noise emission, considering that the use of such an specific vehicle is in the nightime.
Ideally, electric vehicle should be used for this purpose, but batteries technology do not allow the necessary energy to move the vehicle and action the collection devices, with enough autonomy. The paper describes the work carried out to define and test a serial Hybrid Vehicle, based on a diesel engine to generate energy, and an AC electric motor to move the vehicle and action the collection devices, all controlled by an inverter.
