Abstract

In recent years, emission regulations for passenger cars have become more and more restrictive in most of the developed countries. To meet this requirement electrical vehicles have been built and tested, but were found to be too limited in performance to be acceptable to the market. To overcome these difficulties, the idea of a hybrid electrical vehicles was born. This type of vehicle carries a conventional combustion engine as well as an electrical propulsion system on board. The idea is, to combine the range and performance of classical vehicles with - at least part time - emission-free operation. This paper presents a simulation model of a series hybrid electric vehicle allowing studies of operating strategies and performance influence of design parameters.
