Abstract
The ceramic gas turbine (CGT) has high potential as automotive engine in the future, because of its fuel diversification, high thermal efficiency and low exhaust emissions. The Petroleum Energy Center (PEC) in Japan has developed a 100kW ceramic gas turbine under the support of MITI from 1990 to 1997 as a 7 year program .
The test engine was assembled with all ceramic components . In March 1997, the maximum output power of 92.3kW and the thermal efficiency of 35.6% were achieved at turbine inlet temperature of 1350 degree centigrade and the recent study has shown the potential applications of the CGT as a hybrid vehicular propulsion system combined with some batteries.
