Abstract
The penetration of Anti Lock Braking Systems ABS into the whole range of passenger vehicles has led to the development of further systems which control the traction and stability especially under adverse road conditions. Among systems which primarily focus on traction control, systems become more and more popular which improve the active safety of passenger cars by automatic stabilisation. Systems firstly were introduced in upper class cars but are also now available in compacts cars . The approach undertaken by BMW for its new 3 series model is described in the following. An outlook on possible future developments completes the overview.
