Abstract

Energy Absorbing(EA) Steering Column System is one of key design areas for driver’s safety under the frontal crash. This system gives more space between steering wheel and chest of occupant and absorbs more impact energy of occupant. The body block test is used to evaluate the performance of steering column system. In this paper, EA steering column system is modeled and correlated with a body block test. In order to reduce injury level of driver, chest acceleration level should be decreased. To find the effects of each design parameters including airbag for reducing injury level, Taguchi method is used.
