Abstract

In order to realize an advanced driving support system, concept and technologies for human-centered automation are needed. This paper deals with the concept, design requirement and technical aspects of human-centered driving support system for driving safety improvement such as a driver's workload reduction, correction of driver's operational errors, inhibition of unsafe driving and autonomous driving. The structure of advanced driving support system, driver's associate, consists of an intelligent driving management system and three intelligent interfaces is described. Adaptive cruise control system, lane-following control system, and auto-pilot system in the driving management system are represented. Furthermore, the results of evaluation study are discussed.
