Abstract
Automated mechanical transmission (AMT) is very satisfying in easy operation, economy and dynamic performance. The core and difficulty is the control of its clutch. This paper establishes a two-level intellectual control system by the feedback of engine speed, input shaft speed, and the difference between them. The high-level system determines the clutch engagement speed and stroke. The low- level controller follows the clutch target position at the given clutch engagement speed. Experiments are carried out to illustrate that the control is efficient and feasible, not only can smooth start be realized, but service life of clutch also be prolonged.
