Abstract
Today the primary driving force for the use of magnesium in vehicle components is weight reduction. Mg has been rediscovered as the lightest metallic structural material. The potential for the use of mg in vehicle components is outlined. The differences in stage of implementation, demands and R&D requirements of the four component groups (engine & transmission, chassis, body and interior) are discussed.
