Abstract

The engine cooling circuit REROM is a breakthrough in engine cooling. It aims cost reduction (-15%), weight reduction (-30%), fuel consumption reduction (-5%) and cabin heating improvement. The breakthrough is achieved by a low coolant flow rate, a low circuit pressure, a controled use of evaporative cooling and an underhood inlet air control. Engine tests, vehicle tests and 3D thermohydraulic calculations are used for the feasability and the sizing. Specific low cost and low weight components are developed, mounted and integrated on a vehicle. This vehicle is then evaluated in terms of engine cooling, cabin heating, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
