Abstract
From the start of the activities Skid Resistance has been a major point of interest of the Technical
Committee on Surface Characteristics (C.1) from PIARC. Over the years there was always something to mention about that research field. Of course this is connected to its direct impact on road safety. Besides also road construction has been developed over the years. As well in the area of materialtechnology as in the production and construction technique as in the process management and quality control this branch developed strongly. At each change it was checked what the influence was on the skid resistance of the surface and/or the effect on traffic.
