Abstract
This paper goes over again and updates parts of an article published in French and English in "Cahiers de l'Institut d'Aménagement et d'Urbanisme de la Région d'Ile-de-France", Quarterly review, n°114-115, May 1996, under the title "Mexico City smothers its pollution" ( article translated by Karen MARCELLE). After a general presentation of Mexico City urban development background, it describes the very ambitious air pollution control program PICCA which has been put in place from December 1988 on (PICCA : Programa Integral Contra la Contaminación Atmosférica de la Zona Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México).
