Abstract
Currently there is intensive interest in producing safer roads and safer vehicles. But the influence of road and vehicle factors cannot easily be singled out through accident investigation: an accident is a more complex process of interrelated events and conditions rather than a simple summation of causal factors.
The aim of this presentation is to describe how detailed accident analyses, collected through in-depth investigations, and simulations using vehicle dynamic models can be useful for better understanding the interactions between the components of the driver-vehicle-infrastructure system.
