Abstract
In the present report, different possibilities of use of motor biofuels are evaluated. The most known biofuels are vegetable alcohols and their derivatives ETBE and MTBE in spark ignition engines and vegetable oils and their derivative esters in diesel engines. A review is made on the historical use of these fuels, as old as the engines. The expectations for the XXI century are that the use of this type of fuels will have a continuous growth according to their rise in productivity, the evolution of fossil fuels reserves and the accurate evaluation of the socioeconomic and environmental benefits of biofuels.
