Abstract
High solid automotive top coating having high acid resistance and scratch resistance has been developed. This system is made up of the cross-linking reaction with acid anhydride groups, epoxy groups, siloxy groups and hydrolyzable silyl groups. The key to achieve higher solids in the coating formulation is using the highly fluid oligomers containing siloxy groups and hydrolyzable silyl groups. The film shows high acid resistance because its chemical structure does not consist of those being susceptible to hydrolysis such as imino ethers. Furthermore, the film shows high scratch resistance as the cross-linking density of the film increases by the contribution of hydrolyzable silyl groups.
