Abstract
The FMEA is a well known method for the evaluation of possible failures and definition of preventive actions in early phases of product design (DFMEA) or process planning (PFMEA). The
German car industry, represented by the VDA, introduced System-FMEA as an industrial standard [VDA4.2]. This report, based on the official Volkswagen brochure [VW96], describes the new standard and gives arguments for its application.
