Abstract
The designing approach in the truck industry, where you can have a very large number of vehicle configurations related to many offered variants (options), is based on the modular concept. In fact product modularity is frequently stated as a goal of good design practice, because it is possible to increase commonality reducing the variability of the components. The modular design has to be supported with a proper documentation system. In fact the way you document the bill of material of the modular product structure and related assembly routings into the process structure is very important for reducing the documentation efforts in terms of number of vehicles wholly proved by documents.
