Abstract
The automobile production in Spain showns unique characteristics in international terms: it is the sixth place among the worlds car manufacturing countries and it has factories belonging to the most leading firms of the sector. The process, beginning in the fifties, is carried out in a scarcely developed country, with a motoring amount of 50.000 vehicles and special political conditions. This study considers the development of the sector from the beginning until the present days, exploring the incidence of the different applied industrial policies and other factors, that explain the excellent present situation.
