Abstract
The new Volvo V70 exhibits low aerodynamic drag, combined with excellent lift force and distribution between front and rear axles. To achieve these properties several new working methods combining innovative use of CFD and experimental testing techniques were applied. In the early stages of the project model scale testing and CFD were applied both in parallel and in sequence to generic models, in order to obtain a robust set of parametric guidelines. Full scale testing was used to optimise the underbody and, in combination with CFD, specific details such as the tailgate spoiler.
