Abstract
The pressure upon automakers is growing to achieve enhanced safety and refinement with improved economy and emissions. As a result, new steel processing technologies will play key roles in future lightweight automotive solutions. The steel industry has recently recognised the need for pro-actively supporting automakers with their new model programmes. This paper will describe examples of auto/steelmaker collaboration in joint development of new steels and process technologies, and joint application of new technologies in the concept development phase of new vehicle programmes.
