Abstract

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), usually, is known as the technique which dramatically reduces the NOx emission in diesel engine. In this paper, the emission test has been carried out with the 11,000cc turbocharged diesel engine equipped with an EGR. The emission levels of CO, THC and PM were substantially increased according to the increase in EGR rate, especially the reduction rate of NOx increased at the higher load, rather than lower load. Furthermore, we evaluated the emission level of a carcinogenic benzo(a)pyrene, SOF, Sulfate and Formaldehyde at the D-13 test mode when EGR is applied.
