Abstract

In this paper, a multi-pass transmission(MPT) for a flywheel hybrid vehicle(FHV) was suggested and performance of the FHV with MPT was investigated. In design of the MPT, vehicle system was classified as a prime mover, MPT and vehicle dynamics. Each element of the prime mover, MPT, vehicle dynamics was modeled and represented using MATLAB SIMULINK. Using the simulink model, the performance of the FVH was investigated. Simulation results showed that the FVH demonstrates the drastic improvements in the fuel economy for the city driving mode, which repeats the frequent stop and start, since the vehicle start can be assisted by the flywheel energy stored during the braking.
