Abstract

The paper deals with a special kind of hybrid derived from parallel hybrid, that allows performance, in terms of emissions, close to that of a series hybrid. This performance is possible thanks to the use of a continuously variable transmission, CVT, and to a specially developed control for the electric motor. An analysis of the different configurations up to now developed in the field of hybrid vehicle technology is first presented. The preliminary design of a vehicle for delivery duties, derived from a commercial one, is shown, together with the results, in terms of energy consumption, of a simulated typical mission.

Preliminary analysis points out equivalent or lower consumption than the conventional model, with lower emission, because the combustion engine, even if consumptions are equivalent, runs in steady state.
