Abstract
We have studied active safety technology of vehicles from the viewpoint of the mental lapse made by a driver. We have analyzed the causes of traffic accidents and developed a system called "auto-braking system for collision avoidance" which avoids collisions, not only with another vehicle, but also with a crossing pedestrian.
In this paper, we describe the detection technology of scanning laser radar with high detecting performance for a pedestrian. We also describe the recognition algorithm for a crossing pedestrian into the vehicle's ongoing path by the estimation of the lateral movement of the pedestrian
