Abstract

The thermal capacity of the disc in the front disc brake system and the influences of heat transfer have not been well predicted on the new car development of a heavy-duty multi-purpose vehicle. So the performance of the wheel bearing which is located between the spindle and the disc plate has been severely decreased in the test due to the rise of temperature of grease in the wheel bearings. The general purpose computational finite element analysis program was used to predict the influence of the heat generated by the friction on the disk brake system. But in order to achieve the successful analysis the finite element model, boundary conditions like thermal flux, convection and radiation are properly established. Therefore, the real system was simplified and idealized to obtain the heat transfer coefficient. From the results of computer simulation, we investigate the influence of the heat on the wheel bearing grease and estimate the temperature of the brake disc and pad during the test. The results of the analysis would be compared to those of the test.
