Abstract

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the transient response of a car air conditioning compressor and the whole system during start-up. The aim is to present the characteristic of pressure and temperature evolution at the inlet and outlet of the test compressor. The energy used at this transient period and the evolution of the coefficient of performance [COP] will also be quantified. These last two parameters were evaluated for various values of initial refrigerant pressure based on the measurement of pressure and temperature at each inlet and outlet of the main components. The results suggest that energy used during the start-up period depends on initial pressure of the refrigerant or its mass quantity inside the system. The COP oscillates slightly at this transient period and finally stabilizes towards the steady state value.
