Abstract

Three dimensional flows in a torque converter cascade of impeller, turbine and stator are calculated in combined BFC grids, using a k-å turbulence model. Several conditions in the speed ratio of impeller and turbine are simulated and flow patterns by separations and secondary vortexes are indicated using the computer graphics. Variations of torque ratio and a capacity factor are predicted qualitatively. A numerical technique in the boundary condition between grids combined is also discussed.
