Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to find out the suitable conditions for the spot welding of 5XXX series and 6XXX series aluminum alloy sheets together. It was concluded that nugget diameter and tensile shear load were affected by welding current, but the effects of the electrode force and of the welding cycle on tensile shear load were negligible. It was found that the spot welding for 1mm thick 5XXX and 6XXX series required welding current greater than 30kA. It was also found that the tensile shear load of these sheets after spot welding was increased by 40-50 kgf due to bake hardening.
