Abstract

An experimental investigation was made of a Confined Swirling Jet with Obstacle having a moderate ratio of swirling to axial momentum with a moving transparent glass cylinder model of SI-Engine. A Swirling Jet was obtained when the air enters the inlet port of the combustion-chamber through a valve with several blades mounted on it. Blades can be mounted also inside the orifice (manifold) near the exit hole. The flow of swirling jet was presented by a nondimensional swirl number, which can be derived from the NAVIER STOKES equations. Analysis showed that the stronger the swirl, the higher the swirl-number will be. The experimental results showed the best turbulence intensity was for the valve with 60 degree of blades inclination was mounted on it.
