Abstract
Aluminum cylinder head for gasoline engine is widely used for the reduction of engine total weight. One of the most frequently happening problem is the oil leak between cylinder head and block due to the different material properties between the two components. In this study, temperature distribution of the engine components, axial force of the cylinder head bolt and the opening of the gap between the cylinder head and block were measured during the thermal shock cycle test. With these test results, the oil leak mechanism was investigated, and the effects due to the changing stiffness of cylinder head and block to the oil leak were analyzed.
