Abstract
As the electronic accessory market exponentially grows, so does the demand for a method of ergonomic control. Delco Electronics has developed a hands on the wheel, mind on the road solution. This solution integrates all vehicle electronic accessories into a single, controllable system. The concept centralizes driver control with reconfigurable steering wheel switches displayed in a menu on an Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) cluster. A concept unit installed on a vehicle determined and demonstrated 1) the value of managing control of cockpit electronics for highly contented vehicles of the early 2000's, and 2) the value of placing selected controls and displays in the forward vertical plane.
