Abstract

A system has been developed that uses a memory card containing data related to engine setting accessed by the motorcycle's Electric Control Unit. In addition to performing the functions of communicating the data, it will secure the motorcycle from theft and enabling electric power on/off as an ignition key. The memory card system was designed in shape and construction with consideration to portability and waterproofing adopting a "Non-contact Electromagnetic Coupling communication System". This system does not only communicate data for engine setting, but also contains ID codes to verify vehicle exclusivity and enable engine starting. The combination of the electronically released steering lock built inside the motorcycle body and the memory card constitutes a new key system that is highly resistant to external impact and destruction.
