Abstract
The authors proposed a steering control method for a semi-trailer referred to as the "Vector Follower Control" and showed this method is effective to improve the stability of a semi-trailer by a series of simulations which were reported at AVEC'92. In order to confirm the results of the simulations, the authors conducted transient response tests using a scale model (Scale; 1/8) whose wheels are controllable. In this paper, the results of the transient response test are compared with the results of the simulations, and it is confirmed that the simulation results coincide with the test data approximately. Thus it was shown that this control method is highly effective for improving the stability of a semi-trailer.
