Abstract
This paper will illustrate the bumper heights of various types of vehicles through statistical methods and show bumper height mismatch. The bumper structure design and material selection has evolved over the years. Although significant progress has been made, dimensional (static) bumper height mismatch still exists. It is known that bumpers are normally designed to be most effective at full engagement. The higher the closing speed, the more the engagement needed to avoid dynamic bumper mismatch in collisions that could lead to underriding or overriding in head-on or rear-end collisions.
