Abstract
This paper outlines the research and development work conducted on process and facility design for vehicle driveline balancing. The material presented relates to the specific system developed with the test-case manufacturer but the methodology is relevant to other vehicle configurations and processes. Relevant background information and an introduction to driveline balancing is summarized. This included the information which was specific to the test-case under investigation. The consid- erations required in the development of a measurement system for driveline imbalance are outlined. An explanation of conventional balance theory and the unique approach, which was developed to improve the performance of the process, are given. An overview of the complete balancing facility is presented, along with the process output results and the statistical tools used for analysis.
