Abstract

The electronic control systems used on vehicles have diversified greatly in function and scope of application in recent years, and their roles are continually increasing in significance. Since advanced control capabilities are needed to improve system performance and reliability, it is safe to say that the quality of the control methods used has a profound effect on the attractiveness and appeal of a product. The role of a control system is to achieve the intended target performance while avoiding various effects stemming from the nonlinearity, variability or degradation over time of the plant as well as from external disturbances. That is one reason why the performance of feedback control is so important. This paper describes the application of robust model matching control to actual automotive powertrain control systems and the validation of the effectiveness of this modern control method.
