Abstract

Finite element modelling based on experimental stress-strain relationships was applied to the FEM simulation to estimate the crashworthiness of automobile steel parts. Compared with the results of dynamic crash tests using hat-square-column type specimens made of 300- 590Mpa grade steels, the accuracy of the FEM simulation was evaluated for various modelling methods. It was revealed that the modelling of corner radius and strain rate sensi- tivity of materials played on important role in predicting the actual dynamic deformation process and the force-stroke relationship.[1 ,2,3,4]
